Romano Vineyard and Winery Open House

Founded by Joseph and Jo-Ann Romano, Romano Vineyard and Winery is located south of Washington, D.C., in the scenic rural tier of Prince George’s County, Maryland. Our family is committed to producing small lots of handcrafted wine from the grapes grown in our vineyard and those of carefully selected custom growers.

In 2008 and 2009, The Romano’s first grape harvests, gave Joseph the opportunity to learn the characteristics of their grapes and develop his skills as a winemaker.

In the meantime, Jo-Ann started her work as the vineyard manager, taking care of the vines with the help of the couple’s daughters. She uses two different training systems, based on the growing preference of the vines. You’ll often find her outside, pruning, de-leafing, hedging, positioning the shoots, thinning the clusters, etc. With all of that “babying,” it’s no wonder Tiffany and Tarah tease Jo-Ann about when she’s going to start crocheting hats for the vines!

true testament to the time and care given to the vineyard.

After giving the grapes time for their vines to mature and their roots to grow deep, the Romano’s harvested their first grapes for commercial wine production in 2010.

Today, the vineyard is home to six wine grape varietals – Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Chambourcin, Vidal, Cayuga and Traminette – as well as six table grape varietals.

We believe that wine is made in the vineyard: quality grapes make quality wine. That’s why we give every ounce of attention to our vines, so that they’ll produce the high-quality grapes that give us one of Maryland’s best wines.

We hope you enjoy our wines as much as we enjoy making them for you.
